Enjoy the stunning landscapes of glaciers, mountains and insanely blue lakes and rivers through our pictures of Chile. It’s undoubtedly one of the most pristine countries we have ever visited.
And it seems they have it all, you just choose whatever you’d like to see: desert, volcanoes, fjords, glaciers, mountains, ocean or penguins, whales, sea lions & guanacos or the southernmost city in the world.
We travelled extensively through Chile (the mountainous part of Patagonia especially) and saw so much beauty it’s too hard to put it into words. So here it is, a photo essay of Chile in 50 pictures.
Although I’m not even sure pictures do it justice, you just have to go and see it yourself. You can easily forget about New Zealand or Iceland and go to Chile. You can thank me later π or not, just enjoy yourself!
I’ve put together these pictures of Chile to inspire your future travels. And I’m sure they will.
Start planning your Chilean adventure with our posts:
I will “wow” you right from the beginning, this is one of the many places where we haven’t seen a single human on a full day hike.
But you will see a thousand shades of blue, and this is a nice example I think.
Help me decide who has the funniest face expression from Chilean wildlife – sea lion, penguin or guanaco?
Let’s not forget what will leave you speechless in Chile – GLACIERS.
Oh yes, and you can walk on/inside some of them!
And camp in the newest national park in Chile – Patagonia National Park.
In case you like remote places, let me introduce you to Monte San Valentin (4,058m), the highest mountain in Chilean Patagonia and part of a giant North Patagonian Icefield.
Patagonia is the perfect playground for fans of the outdoors. The first trek we’ve completed independently was W trek in Torres del Paine National Park, it’s ideal for beginners.
You will see a huge glacier up close and personal!
Can you spot the small fishing boat sailing close to the fjord covered with a glacier?
It was on the way to here – Puerto Williams, the southernmost city in the world.
You can hike at the end of the world, how cool is that?
You won’t get bored on the ferry during those 33 hours to get there, there is no shortage of glaciers and sea lions on the way.
And waterfalls..of course.
You will see Argentina across the Beagle Channel while standing in Chile.
If you come in the autumn, Patagonia looks beautiful, don’t you think?
Some mornings are warm & sunny and some are cloudy & snowy…
…either way the day gets better when you see a waterfall coming out of a glacier…
…or a new shade of blue…
…or a combination of both.
As you can see, one of my recommendation would be to get up early and go watch a sunrise in the mountains.
You will beat the crowds (although in some places they do not exist)…
…and have the natural wonders of Chilean Patagonia all to yourself.
Given the chance, cool off in the water and enjoy your surroundings.
Or just stare in disbelief if you’re dreaming, like me.
Look at the details of the rock and those colours. I think it’s pretty amazing.
Atacama Desert is where we entered Chile from Bolivia, it is the driest desert on Earth and the complete opposite of the southern part.
On the southern end of Chile are…
…fjords…
…and mountains…
…the southernmost part called Tierra del Fuego…
…where people live in harsh conditions all year long…
…cause it’s so windy and chilly.
One of our all time favourite parts of Chile is Carretera Austral.
We’ve seen plenty of friendly and shy guanacos…
…hiked somewhere new almost every day…
…tried glacier trekking…
…hitchhiked along the way for 2 weeks…
…enjoyed quite time in the wilderness…
…slept under the stars…
…and met many friendly Chileans.
Now we can’t wait to go back.
One things is for sure…
…Chilean Patagonia is full of glaciers…
…wildlife…
…blue lakes and rivers…
…breathtaking hikes…
…and other activities…
…for adventurous people!
Plan your Chilean adventure and stay as long as you can, you will not want to leave.
