Forest Park Hotel Review

Visiting Jasper National Park is always a pleasure. Even though we love camping in Jasper, we prefer indoor accommodation once the temperatures are nearing zero degrees at night. And there’s a lot to choose from; you can find whatever fits your budget and needs here, from river-side cabins to hotels in town.

We recently visited Jasper in the colourful autumn season and stayed at the Forest Park Hotel. It’s located on the edge of town, which is the perfect location – you’re still close to town but not right in downtown that restaurants and bars might interrupt your sleep at night.

The best thing about the location is that the hotel is next to a forest, so you don’t need to drive and look for wildlife. Elk are very common visitors.

We enjoyed the Forest Park Hotel in autumn, and this is my honest review of our stay with tips for activities.

Forest Park Hotel Resort

We drove to Jasper from Calgary and took our time, stopping at Peyto Lake, Sunwapta Falls, and a few more stops on the gorgeous Icefields Parkway.

The leaves started to change their colours, and the drive through Icefields Parkway, often named one of the world’s most beautiful drives, was breathtaking. One of the stops I was most excited about was Columbia Icefields and seeing the enormous (although slowly disappearing) Athabasca Glacier.

When we arrived in Jasper and checked into Forest Park Hotel, it was the evening. We had a Deluxe Queen Room booked for three adults & one child. I was amazed at how seamlessly they utilized all the space in the room.

The beautiful renovated bathroom was huge, with a spacious shower corner. Near the entrance, there was a kitchenette. It looked small at first glance, but it had everything we needed: a big counter space with a sink and cleaning supplies, a coffee machine, and a kettle (I’m always grateful when hotels think of tea drinkers as well).

There was a full-sized stove and oven, a big microwave, all the dishes for four people, and a spacious fridge. The big surprise was the small dishwasher. It held all the dishes from our dinner, which was a huge plus because who wants to clean the dishes on vacation?

The room had a coat rack, space for large luggage, and comfortable sitting/eating space for four people. The balcony had a nice view over the mountains and a couple of chairs, so we could enjoy the views right after waking up with tea.

We visited a fair share of hotels in the Rockies, and I must say Forest Park Hotel had one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever tried sleeping on.

While our room wasn’t in the main building, where reception, restaurant, and swimming pool are, it was connected via a heated hallway, so there was no need for bundling up because of the cold. You can comfortably stay in your indoor clothes and even take advantage of the cozy common space with a huge couch and a fireplace, an ideal space for reading a book or just chilling.

Our four days in Jasper were filled with many fun activities (see below), and it was liberating knowing we didn’t have to think about our dinners. Forest Park Hotel has an on-site restaurant in the atrium, where we went straight from the pool and indoor hot tub.

Just imagine the comfort Forest Park Hotel provides – you’re tired after a fun day, get back to your hotel, and the only thing you need to do is put your swimsuits on. Then relax in the hot tub or swim a few laps to thank your hard-working muscles. After that, visit the Hearthstone Lounge, just a few steps away, and indulge in tomato soup and roast chicken with pea puree (both I highly recommend).
