When winter comes, everyone starts talking about skiing. But there are times when you just want to have fun without the physical exhaustion.

That’s when tubing at WinSport’s Servus Tube Park comes in! It’s the kind of activity that doesn’t require fancy gear, lessons, or any skill – just a sense of adventure and a willingness to laugh your way down a snowy hill with friends or family.

Located at Canada Olympic Park – WinSport’s tubing park is one of Western Canada’s largest dedicated snow-tubing setups. You’ll find eight groomed lanes side by side, and a magic-carpet lift that brings you back to the top (no lugging tubes uphill!).

As an experience gift for this Christmas, I got tubing tickets for Michal and our 5-year-old. While gifting a young child tickets was not met with much excitement, the actual experience was very well received, since they were the last ones to get off the hill!

While the tubing part is pretty straightforward, the whole process of booking, coming, and checking in is not. That’s why I’m sharing our experience of what the tubing at WinSport involves.

Our tubing experience at WinSport, Calgary

It was chilly -15C during Christmas break when we visited the Tube Park. Surprisingly, though, there was an attendant at the parking lot giving everyone instructions. It took us a while to get to our parking spot.

Once we got all dressed, we walked down to the ticket booth to print off our tickets – this is mandatory. Unfortunately, none of the self-serve kiosks were working, and therefore everyone had to stay in line at the main ticket booth.

After getting tickets, small groups formed for the safety talk, during which the attendant explained the rules and how the Tube Park works. Then the boys went to get a tube and off to the carpet lift.

Luckily, my 2-year-old and I could stay on the side and watch. Every single face I saw was filled with excitement and absolute joy!

Our older son got his own tube, and after the first test run, riding side by side with dad holding his tube, he wanted to ride by himself. The most exciting part for him was when the attendant on top spun him before pushing him down the hill.

This is quite a thrilling experience – Michal reached a speed of 50km/hour riding down the hill!

Since we visited during a busy time, there were lines forming at the top to wait for the ride. And with the cold weather, many people finished after an hour. Not surprisingly, our family was not one of them. Since we got a bit of a later start, every minute counted, and the boys enjoyed tubing until it was time to turn off the carpet lift.

    • Fridays from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
    • Saturdays from 9:00 am – 11:00 am; 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Tickets

  • Regular tickets are $25/person (no matter the age) for a 2-hour time slot
  • Friday tickets are $16 (but only evening slots available, so you’ll be riding in the dark)
  • Only kids 4 years old and older (and at least 91 cm tall) can enter the park and ride down the hill
  • Kids under 106 cm can only ride with another adult in their own tube, while the adult holds the kid’s tube (only one person per tube is allowed, no kids in laps)

The most important tip: Arrive at least 20 minutes before your timeslot begins – it takes a while to park and then receive your tickets. Get the most out of your 2-hour time slot for tubing by not wasting time anywhere else!

Refunds/reschedule

  • They don’t offer refunds; you only get a snow check if the park is closed due to the weather or the carpet lift breaks down
  • If you want to reschedule your time or date, you need to call Guest Services more than 24 hours in advance

Gear

  • Since this is not a physically challenging activity where your body would warm up, dress warmly (you never know how long you will stand in line and not move at all)
  • I recommend warm layers and a windstopper jacket – you go down fast, and the cold gets to your body fast as well
  • Helmets for children are recommended – even the kids went down very fast
  • Our son used his ice hockey helmet, but if you don’t have your own, you can rent one for $10

Parking

  • The parking lot for Tubing at WinSport is off of Piita Rise SW, exact location here
  • If you have ever gone hiking or biking to Paskapoo Slopes, the parking lot for tubing is just across the parking lot for mountain bikers

Tips

  • The day lodge is not accessible from the Tube Park, and there are no services or snacks other than a washroom (pictured below)

FAQ about tubing at Winsport

Is tubing at WinSport good for kids? What’s the age limit?

Our 5-year-old son loved it so much that he wants to go again. The first ride, he went with his dad, who was holding onto his tube, and then our son rode by himself.

  • the minimum age is 4 (and at least 91 cm tall)
  • kids can ride alone; they only need an adult if they’re under 106 cm
  • our son said the ride is not scary, it’s a lot of fun

Do adults actually have fun… or is it just for kids?

99% percent of visitors were adults, and they were laughing just as hard as kids. I’ve seen kids, couples, families, groups of friends, and even an elderly couple having lots of fun.

How fast is it? Is it scary?

Michal weighs about 100 kg, and he went down about 50 km/h, according to his Garmin watch.

All the lanes have the same incline – there are 6 smooth lanes and 2 bumpy lanes (they had the longest lines). There’s no fast or slow lane, although the bumpy lane is a bit slower.

The staff makes sure you sit all the way down in the tube, so there’s almost no chance you would flip out of the tube.

How long is the tubing run? Do you get bored after a while?

The tubing run is about 380 meters long.

I don’t think there’s time to get bored. You can ride with your kid/friend, then ride alone, then go to the bumpy run, or ask the attendant to spin you before you ride down – so many options to have fun.

Is it worth the price?

Yes! I think $25 for 2 hours is reasonable.

From our experience, you can get at least 12 runs in – but we also visited on a very busy holiday timeslot, so it’s probably more on most days.

Do you have to walk back up the hill?

No! The carpet lift takes you and your tube up for every ride; there’s no uphill walking required.

How busy does it get? Are there long lineups?

Holiday timeslots seem to be the busiest. If you want to ride as much as humanly possible, choose the morning slots, they don’t seem to be ever fully booked.

That’s why I recommend arriving well before you timeslot, so once the clock hits your time, you’re all ready to ride.

Do you need to book in advance?

Yes, their sessions do sell out as the date approaches. I’d recommend booking tickets a few days in advance. I booked holiday tickets a week in advance and every single day and timeslot had available spaces.

What happens if you’re late?

You can show up anytime within your timeslot. But when you arrive an hour late, you can only ride for an hour, which is very little time.

Can kids go together? Can adults and kids ride side-by-side?

Only two tubes at a time can ride together.

Adult is always allowed to ride with their kid next to them, but each person needs to have their own tube.

Is it safe?

Michal found it to be very safe for all visitors. There are lots of staff supervising at the bottom and top of the hill. They only let you ride down once the bottom staff confirms it’s safe and the area is clear.

There are also giant rubber mats on the bottom to stop you well before you would hit the barricades.

The lanes are separated by high banks, so there’s no way you can get into another lane uncontrollably.

Even though we visited on a very busy day, the whole experience felt very controlled and well-managed.

Give it a go and have fun!
