As a first-timer, you will enjoy the famous Golden Triangle, full of beautiful architecture and cultural surprises. As a sweet bonus, you will also get a chance to see Taj Mahal, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World.

The Golden Triangle consists of the capital Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. All three form a triangle shape on the map. Since it’s most likely that you will fly to Delhi, it’s where your journey starts.

Each route between the places takes about 4-6 hours and you can either travel by train or a bus. The tickets can be purchased in travel agencies.

Delhi, India

You can choose from many popular attractions in each place:

Delhi

  • Red Fort – the red sandstone fortress surrounds an ancient city. Once you pay the entrance fee of 250 INR, you are free to walk anywhere you like and admire the different structures of the buildings. It’s a rare opportunity for a quiet place away from the bustle of the city. You can easily get here by metro, and then either walk around 20 minutes on the main street or take a rickshaw.

Once you exit the Red Fort, there are plenty of rickshaws that can take you for a tour. It takes around 3 hours and they will drive you through Old Delhi, the Chandni Chowk &Chawri Bazar where you can visit the largest spice market in Asia and colourful havelis (mansions) from the 18th century. The cost of the ride is negotiable and you can pay according to how much you liked the tour and your driver.

Delhi, India

Agra

  • Taj Mahal – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Taj Mahal is opened year round from sunrise to sunset. You can travel to Agra either by train, by plane or private transport. Many travel agencies in Delhi offer a Taj Mahal day tour with a private car which is a very affordable and comfortable option. You will arrive early in the morning, just in time for the sunrise.

Jaipur

You can reach Jaipur by a private car, bus or train. The latter being the most enjoyable. There are plenty of great attractions in Jaipur which you can visit. Stay at least 3 days to take advantage of them and stay in one of the many one of the many hotels in Jaipur.

Jal Mahal – explore the Water Palace on the Mansagar Lake that was initially built for the royal family

Chokhi Dhani – enjoy Rajasthani folk performances and magic shows, and don’t forget to try some Rajasthani dishes in open air restaurants.

For some gorgeous souvenirs, you can visit Johari Bazaar, Tripoia Bazaar or Mirza Ismail Road for handicrafts.
