Outdoor adventures are our passion and if youβve been reading our blog or follow us on Instagram, itβs pretty obvious. I also love being able to take pictures of our adventures so we can reminisce about them years later. In fact, tens of our pictures are decorating our living room walls. No matter where we go, our camera goes with us.
In all honesty though, if it wasnβt for Michalβs patience teaching me how to photograph in challenging conditions, our best & hardest trips wouldnβt have been captured at all. This includes taking photos in cold weather, in low light when the sun is setting or at night to capture Northern Lights. I often need to change lenses and settings to get a picture I want. And for this, my patience is limited.
Thatβs why I was so stoked to try out the SiOnyx Aurora Color Night Vision Camera. In the beginning, I was skeptical to have one more gadget to take with us but the camera quickly convinced me, mostly due to its size and simplicity. It seems very durable so I just put it in my pocket and didnβt have to carry yet another camera bag.

When we recently went to Banff National Park for a weekend, I packed the SiOnyx Camera excited to test it out. At the end of our ice skating session when the sun began to go down, I grabbed both of my cameras to take pictures of the same scene to compare.
What you see on the left is exactly what I saw captured by SiOnyx Camera, golden light on top of the mountain. I turned on the camera, set it to day mode and thatβs it, it was that easy. On the right, I captured the same scene with my mirrorless camera. The whole picture is a bit lighter but the beautiful sunset light on top is lost, overexposed in automatic mode. And because it was -15C, I really had no desire to play with settings and let my fingers freeze.

By the time we packed up and drove back to Banff from the lake, it was completely dark. We pulled over in a usually scenic spot to test the SiOnyx Camera again in pitch dark evening.
When I was staring in the distance for a while, my friends asked me what am I looking at so intensely.
“A big herd of elk is grazing right in front of us.”
We all took turns and watched them for a while slowly eating dinner undisturbed by our presence.
The left picture is taken by SiOnyx Camera in night mode while we watched the herd and clearly saw every single elk on the meadow. The picture on the right is from my mirrorless camera also in night mode. You can see something in the distance but elk blend with the dark background and you canβt see them clearly.

Thanks to the SiOnyx app I downloaded before and connected with my phone trough Wi-Fi, I was not only able to see the pictures on my phone but also could share them with my friends right away. This awesome feature is just one of the things that set SiOnyx apart from others.
I hardly ever used my camera when it got dark outside but now itβs much easier. I can actually see at night and take good pictures without playing with settings too much. And because it gets dark at 4 pm during winter, I know I will be using it very often.
Another feature I like is the zoom option. In the Canadian Rockies, where wildlife watching is a favorite activity for many, I truly appreciated the zoom on the SiOnyx camera. The camera proved to be a very useful tool during the day as well. I didnβt have to worry about changing lenses and just enjoyed watching and photographing elk from a safe distance.
If youβre thinking of a gift for your outdoor friends or family, nowβs a good time to consider SiOnyx Aurora Color Night Vision Camera. Itβs a high-quality night vision camera with quite an affordable price tag and itβs incredibly easy to use. I havenβt even read the manual; itβs so easy and intuitive.

I know how hard it is to please outdoor enthusiasts because we do not need material stuff and just want to be outside. But it would be hard to find anyone who doesnβt want to capture their adventures in all conditions.
I canβt wait to take the SiOnyx Camera outside again and see what else I can capture at night in the Rockies.
