Yellowstone National Park is popular for its geothermal activity, wide range of wildlife, countless possibilities for hiking in the mountains and numerous canyons, lakes, rivers and waterfalls.
It is located in the north-western part of the US. Mostly in Wyoming, with small parts in Montana and Idaho. Part of the Yellowstone National Park called Yellowstone Caldera is an active volcano. Lava and rocks from eruptions cover most of the area of Yellowstone. It has half of the worldβs geothermal features.
It stretches on 9000 square km, having a car to drive around is a necessity. Since it is hard to focus on the road, we stopped a lot along the way. Either we could smell a geyser and were looking around to find it, or herd of bison were crossing the road just in front of us. Or there was a mama bear with cubs playing in the forest, there is always a lot to look for.
That is one of the reasons we chose to visit Yellowstone National Park in May. A lot of young ones are being born in spring. They play around with their siblings or parents, hardly keep their legs stable. And the other reason – the main season is slowly starting which means roads, parking lots and campgrounds are not as full.
Let us take you on a trip to Yellowstone National Park through our pictures. We hope you will enjoy this photo essay of the first National Park in the US.

Wow, amazing photos! They bring back wonderful memories of my time visiting this park. Unfortunately I didn’t see any bears though! I went in August 2014 and it was definitely pretty packed!
Thanks for stopping by Shannon. I guess bears were just hiding because of the big amount of tourists..

I’m glad you like them.
Do you need they limit the number of visitors, wherein I need to get a permit in advance instead?
There was no limit when we visited few years ago but that might be different now. I recommend you check the official website of Yellowstone National Park.
