For us, Vancouver Island is the most magical place in Canada. Intimate nature of the island makes it a great place for either winding down and relaxing or enjoying the outdoors by staying active. Just a ferry ride away from Vancouver, you can find yourself in a very different place from the mountainous landscape of the Canadian mainland.
When we first visited Vancouver in spring, we were drown by its many beautifuly green parks and sunny weather, that we didn’t have time to see Vancouver Island. During our road trip in the autumn, we spent almost a week on the island. Apart from being able to do any activity imaginable on the island, what we liked the most were empty beaches for morning walks, humid and lush green forests for hiking, rugged coast with whales occasionally swimming by and getting lost in the wilderness of the island.
Hope you will enjoy a photo essay of the most beautiful places we’ve seen while trying to catch the Spirit of Vancouver Island.
Would you consider visiting Vancouver Island? What’s your favourite – beaches or forests?

Beautiful photos! I pinned them for inspiration π I love the one with the snail π
Thanks Karin π
Vancouver Island is stunning. I love the sunset shot.
That was probably the longest sunset I’ve seen..so many pictures but also a lot of time to enjoy it fully!
Loved all your pics. Beautiful collection
Thank you Ami.
I love, love, love Vancouver Island. So pretty. Great camping.
Exactly! We were camping on the beach, unforgetable..
Beautiful! I’ve never been to Vancouver but my husband did a long time ago. He always said how amazing it was. These photos definitely prove it!
Itβs like a different world when you leave Vancouver and step foot on the Vancouver Island.
I originally looked at this on my smartphone and it looked nice.. But now looking at your photos on a big screen, it’s GORGEOUS! I’d love to visit someday. We’ve been thinking of doing a road trip in the summer up north. My husband has never been out of the country, so Canada could be a good first trip π
Thanks so much Jenn! British Columbia is gorgeous, and Vancouver Island especially..you will not want to leave, trust me.
These photos are absolutely incredible! I fell in love with the beauty of Vancouver when I went for the first time a year and a half ago!
Thank you Kaylene. Once you’ve been there, you wanna come back, right?
Gorgeous photos as always! Vancouver is definitely beautiful. I like to squeeze in a trip to BC whenever I visit Seattle. I love how lush and green everything is.
Colour green represents Vancouver the best!
Those are beautiful images! If you ever travel to Europe, you should see Lake Bohinj or Lake Bled. Much smaller in size but also with nature all around and great for trips through forests to waterfalls.
Thank you! I’m from Europe and have been to Slovenia many times. But haven’t seen those lakes yet, they look gorgeous from the pictures though.
Wow this place looks amazing and you have captured it beautifully with your gorgeous pictures….. Waiting to hear if my husband gets the position he has applied for in Vancouver Island…. This could be our new home, it looks like a great location for traveling to other destinations…… Very excited as you can imagine!!
Thank you for your sweet comment. I wouldn’t mind living there as well π Fingers crossed that you will move there!
Sadly most of the photos are out in the Tofino/Ucluelet area – Vancouver Island is huge and has so much more than just out there!
Southern tip right up to the northern tip is so amazing – love living here and never bore of the many places to go and explore!
You did get out and up around Port Renfrew though it appears which is amazing with the huge trees and beaches to explore.
Otherwise looks like you had a great time and that is what is important – come back again and explore the rest π
Wow, you live there? I might be a bit jelaous π We had a great time exploring parts of Vancouver Island and will definitely come back. There is only so much you can see in a few days. We would like to go to Strathcona park next time we visit.
