Jasper National Park offers lots of accommodation options. You can find whatever fits your budget and needs here, from river-side campgrounds in Jasper to hotels in town and gorgeous chalets in beautiful hidden corners.

One of the gems is the chalets at Pyramid Lake Resort, with a lake view and an iconic Pyramid Mountain behind it. And the best thing? You’re away from the crowds but still only 6 km from the town of Jasper.

You wake up with a beautiful mountain view and can go canoeing, ice skating or fat biking.

We enjoyed visiting Pyramid Lake Resort in spring, and this blog post is our honest review.

Pyramid Lake Resort

We were driving from Calgary via the most stunning drive, the Icefields Parkway. While the road does see its fair share of avalanches and snowstorms most of the year, we found that the road was dry in March with stunning wintery views.

We made several stops on the Icefields Parkway to take in the scenery, but one stop that stood out the most was Peyto Lake. While it’s still covered with snow until June, the panoramic mountain views from the new viewing platform and seeing the Icefields Parkway cutting its way through the Rockies is an unforgettable experience.

Once we arrived in Jasper, we were glad to see pathways and forests clear of snow with sunshine in full swing.

We picked up some supplies at the grocery store and headed north of Jasper toward Pyramid Lake. Deer along the road welcomed us warmly; what a great surprise on the drive! Wildlife in the Rockies never disappoints.

When we arrived at the Pyramid Lake Resort, there was a lit-up firepit in the front, and it looked like the perfect place to watch a sunset over Pyramid Mountain while staying warm.

We had a Whistler Room booked that included a kitchenette, a queen bed, a sofa bed, and a fireplace.

Since the on-site restaurant was closed, we cooked in the fully stocked kitchenette and enjoyed dinner by the fireplace.

The morning revealed the view this resort is famous for – front row view of the Pyramid Lake.

Because the weather was getting warmer, the ice skating rink on the lake wasn’t maintained anymore, but we could use complimentary fat bikes for biking there. While the idea was fun, it was too deep to bike, so we opted for an almost dry forest trail along Pyramid Lake Road. It goes slightly above the road with little elevation gain, and you get very quickly to Pyramid Island, the iconic photography spot in Jasper.

Visiting Pyramid Island is one of the best things to do in Jasper, as you can have a picnic completely immersed in nature with astounding views.

During the day, we:

Maligne Canyon

  • took the Jasper Skytram (almost) to the top of Whistlers Mountain (book tickets here)

  • rode the train from Jasper to Hinton and discovered little-known beautiful landscapes of Jasper along the railway

The Pyramid Lake Resort offers an outdoor hot tub, sauna and fitness center in the main building below the resort rooms. I mentioned before that the firepit outside is the best place for watching the sunset, but that was before we went for a soak in the hot tub; just a little tip for you.

We had a delightful stay at Pyramid Lake Resort, and I hope we can visit again in summer or autumn to mountain bike more in the area and take a canoe for a ride around Pyramid Lake.
